If the former news item made you feel depressed, you'd better not check the planning. It's so empty that you won't believe it, there's just one single game from an editor other than Nintendo.
Only Zelda is surviving in this week's chart. Yep, things are that bad.
Nintendo has finally released some decent screenshots for its new Metroid title on GameCube. No more ugly scans from magazines, you can now see the game as it is, a really nice looking follow-up to last year's mega-hit. It also got an official name, though we can't help wondering if the "Prime" still make sense, or are all Samus aventures bond to be prequels from now on ? Check our preview for more details about its exciting storyline.

Nintendo recently introduced a new exclusive title for GameCube developed by the Japanese team of Seta. It's a golf simulation, it looks well done and interesting, though it's definitely not the kind of title the console that will move the crowd. You'll find more about it in our preview:

Don't expect anything new until next month. There's no new game to be released until Pikmin 2.
Now it's Factor 5's turn to say "we quit", except that they've never really been second party and that we won't miss them so much. We will miss the technical wizards, the hardware experts, but not the game makers. They too only made 2 games since the release of the GameCube. Two games of the same series and two bad games, in my opinion, Rogue Squadron II & III. Maybe they read Samurai Nintendo's review of Rogue Leader and hated it so much that they decided to leave ? Oh, well, just dreaming. The important question after all these departures is still how exactly Nintendo counts to compensate them.
It came as a shock and quite a bad surprise, Silicon Knights and Nintendo announced yesterday that they ended their exlusivity deal, in other words, SK is not a second-party anymore for GameCube, they are free to develop, or not to develop, for any console they want. Silicon Knights, makers of 2 games in 5 years since they've been working for Nintendo, hasn't been very succesful in term of sales and production but the quality of its titles was reknown. Eternal Darkness was considered by many as one of the best titles on the GameCube, and Samurai Nintendo agreed with that. The Twin Snakes, on the other hand, was more of an assignment, and perhaps a bad idea from Konami and Nintendo as the game hasn't drawn much attention. Still, it's a great loss for the GameCube and it might be a clumsy move from Nintendo (or a very stupid one) to split with a talented developper of adult content. Almost at the same time, Nintendo was announcing a new game, Legend of Golfer, which seems really like a pathetic joke compared to what SK represented. We really hope Nintendo is keeping away something big and original to show at the E3, it will need a lot of that to impress and compensate the SK announcement, otherwise they might really be heading for their downfall and Samurai Nintendo might as well be renamed Foolish Nintendo.
As you can see below, I made today a major update, adding screenshots and making new previews for 10 different games among which some brand new titles such as Fire Emblem, Paper Mario 2 or Homeland. There are some rare screenshots and some of them you won't see in many places but Samurai Nintendo, so enjoy, all these marvels will soon be in your GameCube !
Another good surprise announced some days ago is Paper Mario 2, anmother RPG, another title handled by the very talented of Nintendo's internal team, Intelligent Systems. The graphics look amazing, the style is reminiscent of Viewtiful Joe but much smoother, brighter, clearer, shortly, better in many ways. If the game is as good as it looks, it may be a future hit.

Fire Emblem is a great series of Tactics RPG and as I love this genre... the game got a 10 at its impatience level. The only problem is again: will it ever come out of Japan ? Another problem is that at the moment we don't know much about itand screenshots are scarce and their quality is bad as you're going to see. Better than nothing though ?
» Preview of Fire Emblem: Souen no Kiseki
We didn't really expect it and suddenly, pop, here it is: Homeland, a cute RPG with an incredible online feature. 30 players able to participate in one quest under the direction of a game master, without dedicated server, simply from the hosting console. We have only 3 screenshots and they don't look that great, but we promise you, from other screenshots and other material we saw, the game looks highly interesting and we're very excited about it. Now if it could only have a chance to come in the West...
» Preview of Homeland
Also known as Atsumare!! Made in Wario. If you follow the charts in Japan Weekly, you know this game has been doing fairly well last year. Now it's just been released in US, we'll see if it can do as well or, who knows, even better.
» Preview of WarioWare
THQ loves the GameCube... as long as it concerns wrestling. Strangely that's their only reason to give exclusive games to the system, well, why not, there are many fans out there and they should be pleased with this new game: graphics are terrific and modes look promising.
» Preview of WWE Day of Reckoning
It's a totally new game said its producer. Accordingly, all the old pictures of our preview have been removed and replaced with 16 absolutely stunning screenshots. See by yourself. If you dare.
» Preview of Resident Evil 4
The new Pikmin looks like a lot of fun, make yourself an opinion in this preview enhanced with many new screenshots.

This week or next, several new previews with many pictures will be added to Samurai Nintendo. As usual I've been quite busy, but this time the E3 is around the corner and it's time to prepare for the big show.
Little happening this week but a few interesting facts are showing up from the charts.
Things don't look too bright in the direction of the rising sun.
